What school projects are eligible for funding?

The Schools Upgrade Fund covers a wide range of infrastructure upgrades. And drinking fountains definitely qualify! You can propose anything from replacing outdated wall-mounted drinking troughs to free-standing drinking water fountains.

Who can apply for funding?

All government schools across Australia that meet these criteria are eligible:

  • Received Commonwealth funding in 2023
  • Plan to operate in 2024
  • Have at least one enrolled student

School Upgrade Fund: How to apply

Choose your ideal drinking fountain and request a quote to prepare your application.

Applications open on October 31st, 2023, and close on February 29th, 2024. Submit your online application through the Schools Upgrade Fund website. Some tips to help you on your way to success:

  • Partner with your state or territory education department for early guidance and support.
  • Focus on your project based on student needs and address any accessibility concerns.
  • Highlight the positive impact your upgraded fountains will have on the school community.

Funding priorities:

Remember, the School Upgrade Fund program prioritises projects that:

  • Benefit schools in disadvantaged communities with low Index of Community Socio-educational Advantage (ICSEA) values.
  • Haven’t received significant capital funding in the past two years (projects over $250,000).
  • Support schools catering to disadvantaged students, such as special schools and those with a high percentage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
